WHAT WE DO

The Agency operates in a dynamic environment and responds to external drivers from bodies such as central government, the Scottish Parliament, the Law Society of Scotland and the Scottish Law Commission.

The Agency's income is dependant on the economic climate and the buoyancy of the property market. Trends in economic growth or decline, which impact on the property market, continue to be monitored and evaluated.

The Agency also responds to policies adopted by the Scottish Government and legislation emerging from the Scottish Parliament and works closely with Justice Department and the Scottish Law Commission regarding the effect these have on the registration business.

The 'Modernising Government' agenda requires government departments and agencies to deliver better services to the citizen. Key to this for the Agency is the delivery of electronic services both in terms of the provision of information from the registers and the registration of deeds and applications in the two property registers, the Register of Sasines and the Land Register.

The continued development of Registers Direct service, an online business to business service allows for information from the registers to be available electronically.

The Agency will continue to work with other public bodies to deliver improved
"joined-up" government for the benefit of the citizen. For example, the Inland Revenue Stamp Office and the Registrar of Companies have been consulted whilst the Agency develops a system of Automated Registration of Title to Land.

We welcome enquiries from community groups and organisations who wish to gain an insight into our work and the information that we provide. Please telephone Customer Relations on 0131 200 5947.
