Provisional Identification of the subjects on the Index Map

There are two methods of identifying the subjects pending registration irrespective of whether the initial identification was completed by auto or manual pi.

• Seed point - this is used to identify properties that are defined on the Ordnance Map and when viewed at a "medium" zoom the whole of the property can be seen including the seed point.
• Red hatch - this is used for areas that are not defined or where viewing the map at a "medium" zoom the seed point may not be visible.

However there have been various instances where a red hatch should have been utilised by placing a 'rough' polygon around the extent of large subjects such as farms and estates, particularly where an Auto PI hit has been returned, which means that the extent of the subjects are not 'visible' to anyone interrogating the Index Map on the DMS. As a result decisions are being made on adjoining titles without the settler being aware of the full picture.

Therefore all settlers carrying out the duties of manual ident and categorisation must follow procedures documented in the SPI "Manual Ident and Categorisation" which are more fully explained in Plans Manual Section 14.1.9.

Where a settler encounters a case that should have been idented using a red hatch, and has not been, the settler must ensure that this is now completed. See Plans Manual Section 14.1.9.
