The Fees in the Registers of Scotland Amendment Order 2010
Commencement Date 10 January 2011
RoS will be charging new fees for our registration and information services from 10 January 2011. This follows a public consultation exercise that ran from June until September 2010. Scottish Ministers have approved the fees and signed the Amendment Order.

Pre-Registration
From 10 January 2011 a fee of £50 plus VAT will be charged for each written enquiry received in Registers of Scotland on or after that date. From that date no telephone enquiries will be accepted.

From 1 January 2010 to the end of November we have had 160,942 applications submitted for Registration, of these, 16,728 have been rejected.
The information contained within this section of the website is intended to assist our Customers when submitting their applications, thereby reducing the need for rejection.

Rejections
The Fees in the Registers of Scotland Amendment Order 2010 introduces, with effect from 10 January 2011, a fee of £30 for the rejection of an application prior to being accepted for the Land Register of Scotland in terms of section 4 of the Land Registration (Scotland) Act 1979 ("the 1979 Act").
Real Burdens
From 10 January 2011 applications for registration in the Land Register that are rejected by the Keeper will incur a fee of £30. From the same date written Pre-Registration enquiries will incur a fee of £50.

Customer Services
RoS will be charging new fees for our registration and information services from 10 January 2011. The main points visitors to RoS' Customer Service Centres or users of our eServices will note relate to REGISTERS DIRECT ™ (RD), artl and Personal Presentments.
The standard Registers Direct search fee will be £3 plus VAT.
Charges will be introduced for RoS staff conducting searches via Registers Direct
The fee for a search request submitted by email, letter or fax is £8 plus VAT for each search of the registers in addition to a Registers Direct information fee of £3.00 plus VAT per relevant return.
The fee for a search in person at our customer service centres is £12.00 plus VAT for each search of the registers in addition to a Registers Direct information fee of £3.00 plus VAT per relevant return.
Please note that the £3 Registers Direct fee will not apply to a nil return on a Land Register or General Register of Sasines search.
No charge for nil returns on Registers Direct retained.
A charge of £15 will be introduced for Personal Presentments of applications at our Customer Service Centres.
The artl minimum fee increases from £20 to £50.
