Glasgow’s history finds a home

An exhibition on a groundbreaking film showing the story of Glasgow, from a river-crossing to Scotland’s largest city and the host of 2014 Commonwealth Games, has been opened officially in the Lighthouse today by Tourism Minister Fergus Ewing.

FOUNDATION Glasgow - the Story of a City was created by Registers of Scotland (RoS) as part of the Homecoming Scotland 2009 celebrations. It was very well received and there were many calls for this temporary exhibition to find a home in the city.

Welcoming this attraction as a permanent fixture in Glasgow, Mr Ewing said:

“Foundation charts Glasgow’s rich culture and heritage, and is a poignant experience for visitors and residents alike. The exhibition successfully captures the history of Scotland’s largest city and takes visitors through to the next exciting period in the Glasgow’s history – the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

“This new exhibition is not only a valuable educational resource, but is a great visitor attraction for everyone who has an interest in Glasgow’s history and growth.”

Viewed from above, the story of Glasgow literally unfolds beneath your feet as the beautiful animation and commentary tell the story of how one of the UK’s most important cities has evolved and reinvented itself.
