Association for Geographic Information

Speaking on 28 April 2010 at the Association for Geographic Information Annual Scottish Event in the Trades Hall, Glasgow, Sheenagh Adams, the Keeper of the Registers of Scotland, expressed her belief in the need for a joined-up spatial data infrastructure that enables everyone, whatever sector we are in, to use and adapt it for our own personal and business needs.

She went on to point out that Scotland and the UK are already well down the road on that journey with Place Matters: the UK Location Strategy and our own One Scotland: One Geography strategy.  She spoke about aspects of each before turning to how Registers of Scotland is making use of the spatial data infrastructure to support its business. The attached video tells the RoS story.

She concluded by saying that many things have already been put into place to achieve the UK Location and the One Scotland: One Geography strategies.

She believes the next step is for designers to develop mechanisms to provide potential users with access to common geographic information about Scotland.  And it is then up to the public, private, community and voluntary sectors to come to the fore to maximise the products and services that the provision of shared geographic information can create for the benefit of the people of Scotland.
