Dynamic Show Brings Glasgow's History to Life

Free exhibition charting the rise of Scotland’s largest city

24 July 2009

Glasgow’s dynamic history has been brought to life in a unique presentation created by Registers of Scotland.

Foundation Glasgow – the Growth of a City is believed to be the first animation of its kind, charting the birth and growth of the Dear Green Place through to the ambitious changes projected to take place for the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

The show allows Glaswegians and visitors to take a fascinating journey through time and experience a bird’s eye view of the transformation of Scotland’s largest city, beneath their feet.

The 13 minute programme has been developed by Registers of Scotland using many historic records to piece together how the city landscape has changed over time.

It takes viewers from the Neolithic period to the arrival of St Mungo, the industrial revolution and through to the next exciting period in the city’s history - the Commonwealth Games.

The free exhibition will be on show at Registers of Scotland’s Customer Service Centre, 9 George Square, Glasgow, everyday from 3 August 2009 until 7 September 2009.  Viewings will be half-hourly from 10am – 4pm.  Bookings can made by calling 0141 251 0993 (from 9am - 5pm) or email ros@adeptmg.com.
