Network Connections

Much of the data within REGISTERS DIRECT is graphical ie. entire scanned images or map based data. For performance reasons we would recommend connecting at no less than 128kbps [2*ISDN2]. However, the system remains functional at lower speeds. REGISTERS DIRECT is accessible via the internet, a leased line into Registers of Scotland or by means of a dial up connection.

PC Specifications

Whilst it is possible to operate REGISTERS DIRECT using lower spec machines we recommend the following specification for acceptable performance.

200Mhz + Processor
128Mb of RAM
100Mb of free disc space
15" SVGA monitor

Browser Settings

REGISTERS DIRECT has been tested successfully with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or above.

To be able to view Land Register Title Plans and Index Maps an additional Java component or browser plug-in (DAS.exe) needs to be installed on your PC. The Java component should be saved to your desktop and run as by an administrator with all browser windows closed. This is available free of charge from Registers of Scotland and can be downloaded by clicking here.

To run the plug-in a Java Virtual Machine must be present. The Microsoft Virtual Machine for Internet Explorer is available by clicking here.

If you are not authorized to install software onto your PC [perhaps because of corporate policy] please contact your internal IT Support team to complete the task on your behalf.

If, because of corporate policies, you are unable to download the required software please contact our HELPDESK who may be able to supply this software on CD Rom.

Firewalls

Customers who connect to REGISTERS DIRECT from behind a firewall will require the following ports to be open to ensure full system functionality:

Port 80(HTTP) - Web pages

Port 9995(JavaTCP) - Plans viewing

Browser Configuration

General Internet Options - "Temporary Internet Files Settings" must check for newer versions of stored pages every visit to the page.

Advanced Internet Options - The "Advanced" screen contains the most important information for cinfiguration. The items that are listed below should be selected to ensure all functionality of the REGISTERS DIRECT system works correctly.
