What is Registers Direct 2?
Registers Direct 2 (RD2) is a replacement system for the current Registers Direct (RD) platform - the web based service from Registers of Scotland which provides information from the land and property and other registers.
Why are we moving to RD2?
The replacement system will contain some functional and presentational improvements. It will provide a more standardised delivery of the title plans (via PDF) and improvements to the Index Map functionality (via Flash). RD2 will also provide a foundation onto which future improvements can be built.
Who does it affect?
All current users of Registers Direct.
What changes will I see?
- The search engine has been improved to make the results more relevant to the search parameters.
- The title plans are now supplied as PDF files and no longer require the DAS Applet.
- The Index Map has been upgraded to include a more up-to-date version of ordnance survey mapping.
When does it all happen?
We are planning to roll-out RD2 in the coming months.
How will I access RD2?
You will access it using your assigned username and password.
What software do I need?
- Adobe Reader version 8.1 (or above)
- Adobe Flash Player version 9 (or above)
- JavaScript is used in the application. It is recommended (though not mandatory) that the user has JavaScript enabled in their browser.
Which internet browsers are supported?
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 (or above)
- Netscape 7.1 or 8.0 (or above)
- Firefox 1.0 (or above)
- Mozilla 1.7 (or above)
- Safari 1.2.2 browser for Max OS X 10.3 (or above)
Will I automatically be given access to RD2?
RD2 will be rolled out to organisations that have used RD in the last six months. We are contacting all organisations with registered users about the new version.
I don’t have access to the current RD system, how can I obtain access to RD2?

If I don’t want to upgrade, can I still continue to use RD?
No. All organisations will need to upgrade to RD2. Once an organisation has been migrated across to RD2, RD will no longer be available. At the end of the rollout period, RD will no longer be accessible.
What guidance, training and support will be provided?
- An online CBT package is available on our website.
- Tool tips will pop up as you go through each step on the system.
- Context specific help is available whenever you see the Help[?] symbol.
