Message from the keeper March 2015
Deputy First Minister John Swinney this month announced the development of a land and property information hub for Scotland. I have been asked to lead the task force to develop an online system that will allow users to find out comprehensive information about any piece of land or property in Scotland with a single enquiry. The task force will include, among others, representation from Unifi Scotland, Ordnance Survey, the Law Society of Scotland and RICS, and will be reporting back to Mr Swinney in July.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has confirmed that Shoosmiths will be registering all their land and property as part of efforts to complete the land register. As a public body, SFRS are required to ensure that all their titles are registered on the land register by 2019. You can find out more about land register completion on our website.
With the 2012 Act now business as usual, we continue to seek ways to support our stakeholders and improve our processes. Rejection rates are low – currently at 7% - but we aim to reduce that number even further with this updated guidance on mapping. And if you need help with an application, don't forget to use our dedicated helpline on 0800 028 9295.
Finally, our land and buildings transaction tax (LBTT) preparations are progressing well, and we're ready for the introduction of the new tax on Wednesday (1 April). Thank you for all your support as we have worked with Revenue Scotland on the introduction of Scotland's first national tax for over 300 years. You can access the LBTT online portal on the Revenue Scotland website.
