ScotLIS - in development

ScotLIS is Scotland’s Land Information System, an online service currently in development by a dedicated team here at Registers of Scotland. ScotLIS will ultimately allow citizens, communities, professionals and business users to find out comprehensive information about any piece of land or property in Scotland with a single enquiry.

The new service makes RoS ownership information more accessible with map-based searching; displaying RoS data, but with the flexibility to add other “layers” to give context and share data from other sources. To create the service, the team is using agile methodology which means we are working iteratively, getting feedback from a range of users and responding to it throughout the process.

In the coming weeks and months we’ll be out visiting customers and attending events around Scotland, providing an opportunity to find out more about ScotLIS, the benefits of using it, as well as giving users the chance to try it for themselves. But in the meantime, here’s a snapshot of where the team has visited to showcase ScotLIS over the past month.

We recently attended the Scottish Paralegals Association (SPA) conference and the Scotland Women in Tech (SWiT) event hosted in our new offices in St Vincent Plaza, Glasgow. These events gave us the opportunity to demo ScotLIS, whilst users provided suggestions and shared their ideas and knowledge with us. The ScotLIS and Land Register Completion teams also attended the RICS Rural Mid-Session Conference at the beautiful setting of the Scottish Natural Heritage Battleby Conference Centre near Perth. Whilst the response from users attending these events has been positive, we continue to undertake user research to ensure that we deliver a service that can be used by the public as well as professional customers.

Professional and citizen user research sessions are taking place throughout the country with a range of customers; solicitors, mappers, local authorities, to name but a few, to identify what will be needed from ScotLIS. Collaboration like this is vital to the development of new services as part of our digital transformation programme at RoS.

Can you help shape ScotLIS?

ScotLIS is being designed with the user at heart, and so we would like to invite you to join our user experience panel, helping us test the system as it stands now, to help us develop, refine and improve ScotLIS before we put it in a live environment.

We are happy to engage with you in any way that you are comfortable with (online, at your office, at RoS offices) in order to maximise your feedback to us while not taking up too much of your time.

If you would be interested in helping shape ScotLIS or would like more information on ScotLIS, please contact Ruth Mulvenna at ruth.mulvenna@ros.gov.uk.
