Success as RoS named Supporting Organisation of the Year

Winners at this year's Homes for Scotland awards

Registers of Scotland (RoS) is delighted to have scooped the award for Supporting Organisation of the Year at Homes for Scotland’s (HfS) annual awards.

RoS was recognised for the contribution it makes in supporting the Scottish new-build property market through our innovative Development Plan Approval (DPA) service. DPA ensures that any title extent issues for new developments are identified and resolved before any individual house plots are sold. In so doing it streamlines the conveyancing and registration process, reduces risk and costs for developers and their professional advisers, improves marketability and speeds up the registration process. Crucially, this means that prospective purchasers and their solicitors can transact safe in the knowledge that they will acquire a good legal title to the house they are buying.

The judging panel noted that the award celebrates the vital role that Homes for Scotland’s associate members play in the organisation’s work, as well as the value they add to the wider industry.

Speaking at the event, they described RoS' submission as “outstanding”:

They added:

“This award relates to the new Development Plan Approval process introduced by Registers of Scotland in response to title issues in the conveyancing of some new homes.

“Resulting in serious problems for new purchasers in obtaining clear title to their new home and associated bad publicity for home builders, RoS set up a dedicated team and worked in partnership with the industry to develop a free service ensuring extant title issues are identified before the application stage for individual plots. And measures of success are clearly evident with a 67% increase in usage from February to November last year.”

Speaking about the award, the Keeper of the Registers of Scotland, Sheenagh Adams, said:

“DPA was designed to be flexible, efficient, and effective. We are delighted that it has hit the mark, and has received this recognition by our partners across the industry.

“This award is a testimony to the hard work and commitment put into the development of the service, not only by RoS staff, but also those customers and stakeholders who took the time to feed into the process and help us to deliver the level of quality a modern property market needs.

“We’re working hard to streamline our working practices so that we can meet the needs of our customers as efficiently as possible. Our ongoing move towards a digital-first approach across our services demonstrates the scale of our ambition not only for RoS, but for the property market - a significant contributor to the Scottish economy.
