Registers of Scotland (RoS) has become the latest public body to provide free sanitary products in its offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
It follows moves by the Scottish Parliament, other Scottish Government departments, and a number of organisations, including student unions, to make a range of sanitary products freely available to those who need them.
A variety of products will be available in the women’s toilets, as well as gender neutral and accessible toilets.
Commenting on the move, the Keeper of the Registers of Scotland, Jennifer Henderson, said:
“Nobody should have difficulty accessing sanitary products when they need them, whatever the reason. It’s important to us that our employees, and any visitors to our offices, are able to access period products if and when they need them, with a minimum of fuss, and an appropriate level of discretion.
“It’s for that reason that I am delighted that we are taking this small, but important, step towards the eradication of period poverty, and to ensure that nobody has to experience the indignity of not having their basic needs met.”

- The Scottish Government announced in August last year that it was providing £5.2 million to make sanitary products available to all pupils and students. A further £4 million of funding to increase the number of places where free sanitary products are available was announced by Communities Secretary Aileen Campbell earlier this month.
