How Registers of Scotland can help you

You can find a lot of useful information on our website for free.

ScotLIS – Scotland’s Land Information Service - enables citizens and businesses to access land and property information.

You can use ScotLIS to search the Land Register to:

  • find property prices
  • view boundaries on a map
  • check if land or property is on the Land Register or the historic Sasine Register

To find out more information, including current owners, you can buy deeds or title documents.

If you're having problems finding what you need you can ask us to conduct a search for you.

The Land Register is our main register, it is a modern, map based, digital resource.

The Sasine Register is the oldest national public land register in the world, dating back to 1617.

We're working to move records over from the Sasine to the Land Register.

What RoS cannot help with

We'll do our best to help resolve issues you may have, but there are a number of areas that we do not hold information on.

These include:

  • how old a property is or how many bedrooms it has
  • the contact details for the current owner
  • details of alterations or building works on a property

You can get help tracing the history of buildings as well as births, deaths and marriages from National Records of Scotland.

We cannot:

  • comment on planning permission
  • make legal judgements
  • offer legal advice
