Scheduled Revenue Scotland SETS changes for January 2020

Published: 27 January 2020

Revenue Scotland is upgrading its tax collection system (SETS).

This will affect customers submitting applications through the system.

In order to upgrade SETS, there will be a planned period of maintenance on Tuesday 28 January from 8am-5pm. The system will be unavailable during this time.

What is changing?

The upgrade will see some important changes and new functionality being introduced to the SETS portal. These include:

  • Return submission receipt available at any time for download, print or saving locally
  • The ability to delete draft returns
  • The ability to search by agent reference
  • Enhanced validation on reliefs
  • Links to help and guidance online

Will this impact the registration process?

Revenue Scotland and Registers of Scotland are working together to minimise any disruption to the registration process during this planned SETS update.

We recognise the concerns that any period of downtime will cause, particularly around the potential delay of s43 and other validation checks.

Both Revenue Scotland and Registers of Scotland confirm that because we cannot complete a s43 check during the downtime period, applications for registration made during the downtime period will not be rejected on the grounds of no tax return being found but instead be checked once the SETS system is back up and running.
