Our Social Impact Pledges

Published: 12 February 2024

We have made a public commitment to increase our social impact.

The Social Impact Pledge is a Scottish Government initiative hosted on the Communities Channel Scotland website. It asks public sector organisations across Scotland to commit to increasing their social impact by making a public commitment to change their current operations or policies.

We will push to create the conditions that enable people, places, and communities to act on what matters to them.

We pledge to challenge ourselves to increase the positive impact we make in our local community and make better use of our assets – our buildings, grounds and our people.

Our first commitment

We will look for opportunities to support young people in our community as they enter the workforce.

We will achieve this by:

  • building on our partnership with Career Ready, a social mobility charity
  • offering further mentorships to young people to give them access to new opportunities to build their confidence and readiness for the world of work

This forms part of our commitment to authentic long term and sustainable action to achieve real change in the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion space.

Our second commitment

We will investigate opportunities to use our unique position within Scottish society to encourage and support others to achieve net zero emissions.

One of the ways we will do this is by considering the data we hold and how this might be better used to the benefit of:

  • home energy efficiency
  • carbon sequestration

This will complement our work to measure and report our carbon emissions, with targeted reductions supported by a programme of action.

Our third commitment

We will continue to reinforce our corporate social responsibility values with our Community Benefits Group which will identify new initiatives to support local communities.

This support will positively benefit those who live in the community and encourage engagement and wellbeing.
