Future of Conveyancing – looking beyond RoS to the wider industry

Published: 21 October 2021

RoS hosted the Future of Conveyancing conference on behalf of the Scottish conveyancing industry in June 2021. This is the fourth in a series of blogs to continue the discussion that was started at that event.

During the conference we asked for your feedback on the practical changes you’d like to see, what challenges may stand in our way and areas in which attendees would like further information.

Most of the feedback focused on areas in which RoS, with input from other stakeholders, could either take a leading or supporting role. However, there were also areas identified that sit outside RoS’ purview. For example, people requested more information on:

  • Wider law reforms
  • The use of the technology for complex conveyancing (beyond registration)
  • Common Good, Community Asset Transfer

Although these areas are outwith RoS’ control to lead we will look to the wider industry with interest in terms of progress and next steps.

However, there is one area of feedback which, while also sitting outside RoS’ purview, is one in which we feel able to offer support.

The international speakers at the conference received extremely positive feedback. Attendees were very keen to hear more about the lessons and experiences they or other jurisdictions could share in terms of conveyancing process and systems. RoS will undertake to reach out to our international network again and, if possible, we will seek to facilitate future webinars on these topics.

Watch this space for the final blog in the Future of Conveyancing follow up series where I will outline how RoS is addressing the organisation specific feedback it received.
