Investing in our people

Published: 03 November 2021

Our people are integral to our success at Registers of Scotland (RoS) and are our greatest asset.

We believe that if we have a healthier, happier workforce then this will ultimately be to the benefit of our organisation, customers and stakeholders. For that reason, we’re striving to make RoS the best workplace possible for our colleagues.

An organisational objective

To help achieve this, we have made ‘investing in our people’ one of our principal organisational objectives, acting as a core driver for the way in which we work.

We also measure progress towards this objective and welcome open and honest feedback from our colleagues to see how they think we’re performing.

External accreditation

One of the ways in which we do this is through Investors in People (IiP) – an accreditation standard which supports organisations in making sure that they’re reflecting the latest workplace developments, leading practices and employee conditions required to create outperforming teams.

We’ve partnered with IiP over a number of years and participated in annual assessments where colleagues from across the organisation share feedback and insight on what they think about RoS as a place to work. This is then used to measure the organisation against three principles – leading, supporting and improving – and their nine connected performance indicators, before an overall standard is awarded.

Gold standard

I am delighted to say that RoS has recently been awarded IiP gold standard, an enhanced level of accreditation, following our latest assessment. This is an aspiration that we had set ourselves to achieve in 2021 and we’ve been working hard for the last two years to take on board IiP’s feedback about the areas we needed to develop in order to do this.

A gold accreditation says that an organisation’s people and leadership take full ownership of the practices they have in place to support their people and that they’re actively trying to make work better for people. Around 16% of the companies that IiP assess are gold.

This shows just what a huge accomplishment this is for RoS and is also a real testament to all the hard work colleagues have put in to address the feedback received and make progress against the IiP indicators over the last few years. I am incredibly proud that we have been able to achieve this by working together – and even more so to have done this during a period that has been incredibly challenging for us all.

However, the hard work doesn’t stop there! I will now be looking to use the insight from this recent accreditation to see how we can continue to make RoS a great and high performing place to work. This will help ensure that we are the best performing organisation that we can be for our colleagues, customers and stakeholders both now and in the future.
